6 months

6 months

I haven’t blogged for 6 months! I also haven’t stitched for 6 months. What have I done?

  • Think about stitching, then decide to read instead
  • Started new job
  • Struggled with learning curve on new job
  • Feared I would get fired from new job
  • Stopped Exercising
  • Gained weight
  • Got engaged (too hastily)
  • Got unengaged two weeks later
  • Unsucessfully tried to get out of relationship that led to engagement
  • Have evidence of people entering my apartment when I’m not here… nothing stolen… nothing out of place, but creepy
  • Started seeing a counselor to help me out of my funk
  • Fired counselor after three weeks and never looked for another
  • Turned 40
  • Wondered what I’ve actually accomplished for my 40 years
  • Generally withdrawn from from staying in touch with people

Its been a bad year so far and the horizon doesn’t look too bright either, except for a visit from a friend coming up in June. I still think that if I could only get back to stitching, things might get better.

I’ve never had such a long stitching slump. It all started with that damned pumpkin biscornu. Maybe I should throw it in the trash so that every time I think about MAYBE stitching, I don’t think about how I never finished that and it would only take a little longer to finish if only I would get it out. But then I think about how I really don’t want to stitch, so I shouldn’t stitch at all and find myself curled up on the couch with my kindle instead. Usually starting a new project will break a slump, but getting out something new and getting fabric cut, struggling with my q-snaps that somehow never seem to make a square anymore (I don’t get it….) and pull floss just all seems like too much of a bother when I have BAPs and 7 year old projects all kitted up and ready to work on.

So its Memorial Day and I’m not stitching, or reading, or using the day to catch up on work. I’m still in my pajamas too.

  1. You poor dear. What a crappy time you’ve had with life lately. *big hugs*

Toss that damn pumpkin in a drawer, start something new. In fact, start ten new stitches! Stitching is the perfect stress reliever. It give you a confidence boost that reading doesn’t. Once you get your mojo back you can think about the biscornu again.

    Change your locks.
    Start walking for exercise.
Stay in touch with your blogging friends, ’cause you were missed!

  2. I’ll echo Daffycat’s comments that you were missed! I’m sorry it’s been a crummy 6 months and I certainly hope that the next 6 are much better! I also agree with Daffycat that you should toss that pumpkin design in a drawer and start working on something else.

  3. (((hugs)))

What Daffycat said! Change your locks first! Then, why not send the pumpkin biscornu to someone else who would be happy to finish it for you….(I will volunteer!)

  4. Holly, I’m sorry things have been so awful for you lately. Sometimes when we find ourselves withdrawing, it’s really a sign that we need to reach out instead–and I know that’s not easy. As for the biscornu, either put it away with a plan to pull it out in the fall (it *is* a pumpkin, afterall), OR symbolically burn the damn thing and get rid of it, and start fresh with something new. The best thing about being down in the dumps is there is only one way left to go: UP!
